Nehemiah had finished rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Now it was time to rebuild the people by reading to them the words of Scripture. As the people listened they began to realize how far they had fallen short of God’s will. This caused many to weep and mourn. But Nehemiah admonished them and told them to set aside their sadness. This was to be a day of rejoicing! At this moment they should not be depressed, but they should find joy in being redeemed children of God. Joy provides strength. Perhaps you have noticed that healing comes easier and quicker when you have a heart overflowing with joy. One can even forget pains and misfortunes if he or she has a joyful heart. Proverbs 17:22 tells us that, “A joyful heart is good medicine.” Let the joy of the Lord give you the strength to get through each day!
A word of wisdom for a sticky note:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy!” Romans 15:13
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
There’s a world of joy and gladness,
And its gladness we impart
In dispelling gloom and sadness
From the weary, troubled heart.
God, who loves us, gives the blessing—
Pure and precious joys in Him
For the soul toward Heaven pressing,
For the life all cleansed from sin.
