Today’s question is from Habakkuk 2:18 (ESV)
There are numerous gods and goddesses named in the Bible. They were once worshiped by many people. The Israelites even made their own golden calf idol while in the wilderness. Today Dagon, Baal, and Artemis are all but gone. They had no power; no lasting influence. They vanished as years went by. People today worship different idols. They too put trust and faith in things that are not the true God. In Habakkuk 2:18 the Lord asked Habakkuk, “What profit is an idol?” An idol is anything that pulls us away from God. They can be simple things like money, knowledge, pride, or government. When they become something we put our trust and confidence in, they need to be stopped. We must remember to always place God first. He will not accept second or third place. Pray that God will give you the strength to fight off any idols that try to destroy your relationship with him!
A verse to remember:
“I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols!”
Isaiah 42:8
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
Holy Spirit, all divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol throne,
Reign supreme, and reign alone.
