Question: “Can these bones live?”

Today’s question is from Ezekiel 37:3

Ezekiel was among thousands of Jews taken from their homeland and brought to Babylon. His book contains judgments and prophecies against his people and the surrounding nations. At one point the Lord brought Ezekiel to a graveyard filled with bones. Then the Lord asked Ezekiel today’s snippet, “Can these bones live?” Soon the bones began to reattach themselves, and muscle and skin began to reappear on the bones. Yet they were still lifeless bones. That is, until the Lord breathed into them. Then they became living beings. This story had significance then, because it told the people they would once again be reunited in their homeland. But it also serves us as well. There are many people among us who are lifeless creatures. It isn’t until God gives them the living breath of life found in his Word that they truly become “living beings.” Thank the Lord that he has breathed life into you!

A verse to remember:

“The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life!”

Job 33:4

Today my prayer includes . . .

          thanks for this special blessing:

          concern for this special person:

          petition for this special problem:

 A closing verse:

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.
