Psalms of Joy

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” Psalm 51:12

Throughout Scripture God gives many directives for the Christian to follow. We are to be faithful, honest, loving, prayerful, and even joyful. Yes, being a joy-filled person is a command of God. God knows that joy is an essential part of the Christian life. Every believer realizes that amid suffering and loss, and along with pains and problems, we can discover a hidden joy that has been given to all who trust in him. Only God’s children can discover that deep inner joy. The psalms serve as wonderful examples, with joy-filled prayers for us to use in our daily visits with God.

Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Psalm 30:11: “You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.”

Psalm 68:3: “May the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.”

Psalm 90:14: “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

Psalm 92:4: “You make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done.”

Let us enjoy the great gift of prayer. We should always be mindful of this blessing as we joyfully come to our Father each day with our needs, thanks, and praise. As children of the heavenly Father, we have every reason to be filled with eternal joy that can never be taken from us. There is no god except our God! Our loving Father has promised us true joy. As Proverbs 10:28 says, “The prospect of the righteous is joy.”
