I will redeem you with an outstretched arm. Exodus 6:6

Today’s snippet presents an interesting picture. This is not the only place God’s outstretched arm appears. There are 17 references in the Old Testament to God’s outstretched arm, each of them alluding to his sovereign might and power over his enemies. This verse was spoken to Moses before the plagues on the Egyptians began. The verse continues to say that the Lord will bring his “mighty acts of judgment” on them. God was about to execute his mighty power. Verse 7 continues, “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.” Just as children feel safe when Dad’s outstretched arm is there for them, so we also enjoy a sense of safety realizing that the Lord’s powerful arm is protecting us and ready to bring judgment on our enemies. Thank the Lord for painting this wonderful picture for you today.

A word of wisdom for a sticky note:

“There’s no safer place to be than in God’s outstretched arms!”

Today my prayer includes . . .

          thanks for this special blessing:

          concern for this special person:

          petition for this special problem:

 A closing verse:

I have a friend who e’er awaits my coming,
He stands with arms outstretched to fold me in;
And spite my woes and weariness of coming,
He’ll greet me with the love that bore my sin.
