One might find it hard to believe that today’s snippet is actually the meaning of the name for Moses’ son, Gershom. The first 40 years of Moses’ life were lived in luxury in the palace of the Pharaoh’s daughter. But things changed after killing an Egyptian. His next 40 years were spent in the desert as a shepherd. Not an easy change! As an alien in a foreign land, we can only imagine how many times he thought back to his years in Egypt. Moses knew he was not in a place he was supposed to be. That is why he named his firstborn Gershom. In a very real way we can all be named Gershom. We are all foreigners in a strange land. Philippians 3:20 says, “Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there.” Thank the Lord for walking with you while you are here in this alien land and for promising to one day present you with your new, beautiful home in heaven!
A word of wisdom for a sticky note:
“My home is in heaven. I’m just traveling through this world!”
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
Jesus, I long for Thee,
Friendless I roam,
Earth has no joy for me,
Heaven is my home;
When shall my soul arise,
Joyful with glad surprise,
Up to its native skies?
Heaven is my home.
