Hope for Each New Day

Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. 1 Kings 3:9

In the previous snippet Solomon was given the opportunity to request anything he wished. Prayerfully, and with much thought, he asked the Lord to give him a discerning heart that could distinguish between right and wrong. The word discern means to make proper determination. To properly discriminate between right and wrong, one must acknowledge the Lord’s will. That is why the world has such a difficult time knowing right from wrong. We see this at work in the story of Solomon as he determined an infant’s rightful mother. Just as Solomon asked the Lord for a discerning heart, so we pray that the Lord would show us his will to determine right from wrong and truth from lies. Psalm 119:125 says, “I am your servant; give me discernment that I may under-stand your statutes.”

 A word of wisdom for a sticky note:

“My son, do not lose sight of these—keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul!” Proverbs 3:21,22 (ESV)

Today my prayer includes . . .

thanks for this special blessing:

concern for this special person:

petition for this special problem:

 A closing verse:

No compromise with evil shall be our battle cry,
For God and right must conquer, and sin and wrong must die;
Unflinching we are standing, uncompromisingly,
Beneath the flag of holiness forever we will be.
