Ask for whatever you want me to give you. 1 Kings 3:5
These words are perhaps something one would not say to a teenager. It certainly is wide open for all sorts of answers. Wealth? Friends? Popularity? Health? Expensive toys? This snippet was God speaking to the newly crowned King Solomon who was possibly in his late teen years. His answer was well thought. He wished for wisdom and a discerning heart. No doubt you might have other thoughts. How would you respond to God’s request? What might be your answer? Would you be surprised to know that God makes the same offer today? Jesus tells us, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). Even today, God welcomes the prayers of a devout heart!
A word of wisdom for a sticky note:
“God wants us to pray, and he wants to hear our prayers—not because we are worthy, but because he is merciful!” Martin Luther
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
Our God invites his people still,
He first instructs them how to choose;
Then bids them ask whate’er they will,
Assured that He will not refuse.
