GOD GIVES US ART
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
Some people are very good at drawing. Some people can look at a person’s face and draw it perfectly. Others can take a piece of clay and shape it into a running horse or a growling lion. Art is a blessing from God. People good in art get their talent from God. The great artist, Michelangelo, who painted the entire ceiling of a church with pictures of Bible stories, said, “I believe that I have been designated for God to do this work.” He realized that the blessing of artistic gifts is from God.
Bezalel was a man in the Bible who was known for his gift of art. The Bible says that God filled him with the skill and ability in all kinds of arts and crafts. He shaped things of silver, gold, and bronze. He made stone sculptures and enjoyed wood carving. God even wanted him to design his beautiful tabernacle. Bezalel was thrilled when God asked him to use his talent in this special way, and he did his work faithfully.
The Bible also mentions carpenters, carvers, goldsmiths, coppersmiths, dyers, engravers, embroiderers, painters, silversmiths, stonecutters, and weavers. These people were blessed to be artists.
We know that no matter how gifted an artist is, the greatest artist is still God. He not only blessed people with making art, but he also blessed everyone with the ability to enjoy it. We marvel when we look up into the evening sky and see that God has painted it with brilliant color. We admire the stunning colors of a butterfly, the graceful shape of a rose, and the grandeur of a water fall. There is beauty and art all around us, all designed by the Master Artist.
We thank God for giving us a world of beauty and art, and we praise him for giving us the ability to appreciate nature, filled with interesting shapes and dazzling colors. We also thank God for giving us people who are gifted in art to make our world such an interesting place to live.
There will come a day when we enter heaven and see the greatest display of beauty ever imagined. The Bible tells us that in heaven the walls are made of jasper, the foundations of precious stones, the gates of pearl, and the streets of pure gold. There we will see a dazzling display of splendor as only God, the Master Artist, could design. What a sight that will be!
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful: the Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.
