“No wis
e men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked.” Daniel 2:27 (ESV)
We enjoy gazing up at the stars on a clear night, especially through a telescope. Some people can even identify the different constellations. People have studied the stars for thousands of years. Many civilizations formed their calendar by the stars.
The stars are a special part of God’s creation. Psalm 19:1 (ESV) says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 147:4 gives us more detail: “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” The stars are amazing! “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Psalm 8:3,4).
Sadly, many people use the stars for ungodly purposes. They use them to interpret the future as they study divination or astrology. They believe the stars influence one’s destiny. Every day many people check the sign they were born under and live accordingly. This is a form of idol worship. These people are foolishly putting their future in the hands of the stars. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:19, “When you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them.”
As God’s children we know that our future is always directed by God’s will. For this we are very thankful! We pray in Psalm 31:15, “My times are in your hands.”
