THE LORD’S PRAYER

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created
and have their being. Revelation 4:11
We enjoy praying the Lord’s Prayer because it is so complete and because Jesus taught it. The Lord’s Prayer concludes with the words, “For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.” When we pray this wonderful phrase, we are speaking about the awesomeness of God. The conclusion takes the focus off of us and trains our eyes squarely on how great God is.
Yours is the kingdom! The first description admits that God owns everything. He is so great that the tiniest microorganism and the greatest galaxies are all his. God owns a vast kingdom. Psalm 103:19 says, “His kingdom rules over all.” What a blessing knowing that we are part of God’s great kingdom.
God also owns all power. He directs the seasons and controls day and night. He plans the path of the stars and moons. He oversees the weather, the wind and storms, the heat, and the cold. And he provides for every plant and animal. He alone has the power to heal and to begin or end life. How blessed we are having the all-powerful God on our side fighting our battles and solving our problems. “Great is the Lord, and mighty in power” (Ps. 147:5).
Third, we admit that his is the glory. Here we profess our admiration for God, our praise that is his only, our honor that is his alone, and our worship that is due him. Our sovereign God is worthy of all glory. The Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Ps. 19:1).
Finally, we proclaim that God is eternal. God existed forever before he made the world, and he will be forever into the future. It is because he is eternal that he can offer to share with us his eternalness in heaven. What greater gift could we hope for? “He is the living God, the eternal King” (Jer. 10:10).
