The battle is the LORD’s. 1 Samuel 17:47
Over the years many have speculated as to David’s age at the time he faced Goliath. He was likely younger than 20 years old because those over that age were called to fight in the army. And since we know he had seven brothers older than he, and only three of those were serving in the military, it would place David somewhere in his middle teen years. Although his exact age is not important, we do get a glimpse of this teenager’s faith. This snippet was spoken by David directly to Goliath. He went on to say it was not by spear or sword that we win battles. It is by the Lord Almighty! What an example young David is for us. We too fight many Goliaths in our lives, but we must be confident that it is the Lord alone who is on the front line. Perhaps we need not look at David’s young age but rather his mature faith!
A word of wisdom for a sticky note:
“David didn’t have to know Goliath’s strength because he already knew God’s!”
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
’Twas Israel’s God and king
Who sent him to the fight;
Who gave him strength to fling,
And skill to aim aright.
Ye feeble saints, your strength endures,
Because young David’s God is yours.
