It’s fun watching little children make up songs while they’re playing. It shows they are happy and they want to tell about it. The Hebrew people were known for their spontaneous songs. In times of great rejoicing it was normal for someone to compose a new song on the spot. Moses and his sister Miriam did this after they crossed the Red Sea. Hannah made up a song of thanks when God gave her a son. Deborah broke into song after a great victory. In the New Testament we read of Zechariah and Mary putting their joy to music. Today we seldom do such things. Our snippet was written shortly before the forty years of wandering ended. The people had arrived at the well at Beer where the Lord would again refresh them. So they joined in this joyful song of elation in the assurance that God was with them and would bless them. Perhaps there are moments when we too could join with the Israelites and let the joy of the moment spring up and flow from our souls!
A word of wisdom for a sticky note:
“I will sing and play music for you with all that I am!”
Psalm 108:1 (CEV)
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
Great love of God, come in,
Well-spring of heavenly peace;
Thou Living Water, come,
Spring up, and never cease.
