“He w
ill command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11
Angels are an interesting blessing. We often don’t think about the work they do. They are our silent guardians and invisible helpers. The Bible mentions angels nearly 300 times.
Scripture says that God created the heavens and everything that is in them. Angels were created by God during the six days of creation, just as humans were. Job 38:7 says at creation, “All the angels shouted for joy.”
Some wonder how many angels were created. We read in Revelation 5:11, “Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.” That estimates more than 100 million angels.
Two angels are named in the Bible. It calls Michael an archangel, a mighty warrior angel. Gabriel was the angel who told Mary she would give birth to Jesus. Gabriel was a messenger for God. He delivered his Word to people on earth. Michael and Gabriel are named in both the Old and New Testaments.
The seraphim that Isaiah saw had six wings. Two they used to cover their eyes, two to cover their feet, and two they used for flying. When angels appeared to people, some were bright and gleamed like lightning, while others looked like ordinary men.
Some angels protect us, some deliver messages, and some minister to Jesus. When believers die, the angels take their souls to heaven. The angels will also announce the end of the world.
What a blessing God has given us in his angels. We thank God for creating these special creatures that guard and care for us.
