Daily Snippets on God’s Blessings – Friends

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13

What makes a friend? The Bible includes some wonderful examples of friendship. We read of David and Jonathan, and of Ruth and Naomi. As God’s children, we say that God is our friend. But the Bible also tells us that we are his friends. Why would God want to call us his friend? What makes a true friend? First, friends think alike. Our closest friends think like we do. Second, friends are loyal and dependable. True friends are the ones you can count on no matter what. Third, friends trust one another. They are the ones with whom we can share our deepest secrets and feelings. What a blessing it is for God to call us his friend because we think alike, we are loyal to him, and we share with him our deepest thoughts and feelings. Following today’s snippet Jesus went on to say, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Take some time out of your busy schedule to speak to your Friend!

Digging deeper:

Read 1 Samuel 20, the friendship of David and Jonathan.

 Today my prayer includes . . .

          thanks for this special blessing:

          concern for this special person:

          petition for this special problem:

 A closing verse:

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
