Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.Ephesians 5:19 |
Moses composed his own song after crossing the Red Sea. Miriam, David, Solomon, Deborah, and Zechariah also wrote songs. Our Christian worship services enjoy a rich history of singing. Why did God give us music? Perhaps the answer is twofold. First, he gave us music so we can give it back to him by spending our days praising him for his greatness and goodness. There are many times in Scripture where people sang praises to God. Second, he created music for us to enjoy and to lessen the weight of our cares and problems. Music gives us a chance to express our inmost feelings, and to share them with others. We often don’t take time to consider what a great blessing we have in the many different types of music and the endless ways we can express ourselves. As you go through your day today, hum some hymns, and take them to bed with you tonight.
Digging deeper:
Read Psalm 148, a psalm of praise.
Today my prayer includes . . .
thanks for this special blessing:
concern for this special person:
petition for this special problem:
A closing verse:
It is good to praise the Almighty and make music to Your name;
To proclaim Your love each morning, and each night Your faithful reign.
Add the music of the lyre, let the harp lift up its voice.
For You make me glad, my Father, at Your works I now rejoice.
